ODS Widgets

Widgets provide a simple and attractive user experience supporting the easy discovery, subscription and consumption of content and services. They provide a lightweight yet highly scalable mechanism for rapidly extending the range and scope of content and services offered to the subscriber by the operator.

However, widget deployment raises serious concerns for the operator. Issues around device support and integration and widget business models have restricted operator deployment to date. Cibenix ODS Widgets provides a way for operators to overcome these issues, and to fully integrate widgets into the existing user experience offered to subscribers on the device.

ODS Widgets provides a fully end-to-end experience for subscribers:

  • Easy discovery, promotion and search of 1000s of widgets from operator and third-party stores
  • One click subscription (and optional charging) to new widgets
  • Embedded rendering of widget content from an ODS Browser embedded within the client

Adding widget capability to existing ODS services provides a very powerful operator solution – Operator content and services can be offered side-by-side with widget content from a huge range of sources – all presented in a consistent and accessible fashion to subscribers. And ODS Widgets is fully W3C compliant, ensuring the operators’ subscribers have access to content from multiple sources – no new development ecosystem is required.

OPERATOR BENEFITS
  • Highly effective way of extending existing ODS offering
  • Leverage existing developer ecosystems – minimum expense and resource overhead
  • Highly sticky experience ties the subscriber into the service
  • Immediate advertising and promotional opportunities
SUBSCRIBER BENEFITS
  • Freedom to personalise services and user experience
  • Quick access to relevant ‘long-tail’ content
  • Immediate Access to 1000s of widgets
  • Open, non-technical experience
