Launcher

The Launcher module provides the user with easy access to the application and document links that have been placed on the built-in Desk. The user can select from the list of available links, and launch the selected item. This mechanism provides a neat alternative to accessing a cluttered Desk.

In addition, a number of shortcuts can be created to frequently used applications and documents. The shortcuts can be launched from the device’s command buttons, or from the number keys on the keypad (0-9). This feature is called "Speed Launch" due to its similarity to the Nokia Communicator's speed dial feature.

Launcher also provides the user with the ability to configure applications to launch automatically at device reset – this is in addition to auto-launching Active Desk itself.

Launcher commands are available at all times - including if the Launcher module is configured not to be shown in the Active Desk view (see General Settings).

Desk Link Launcher

Open Launch List

The launch list (i.e. the links placed on the Communicator's Desk) can be opened from the menu by selecting Launcher->Open launch list, or by using the hotkey Ctrl+O.

When the Launcher module has focus the launch list can be opened by pressing the Change command button, or hitting the Enter key.

Launch Link

The currently selected application or document link can be launched from the menu by selecting Launcher->Launch selected, or by using the hotkey Ctrl+L. Note that the Ctrl+L hotkey is not available if the Launcher is not configured to be shown in the Active Desk view.

When the Launcher module has focus the selected link can be launched by pressing the Launch Selected command button.

When the launch list is open, the highlighted item is launched by pressing the OK command button, or by hitting the Enter key. With the launch list open, if the user decides not to launch a link, the action can be cancelled by pressing the Cancel command button.

Launch Link

If the user has configured the two available command buttons to launch specific links, the titles of these links will appear in the command button array when the launcher has focus. Pressing the corresponding button will launch the application or document.

Launcher Settings

The Launcher module can be configured by selecting Launcher->Launcher settings from the menu, or by using the hotkey Ctrl+J. See the Users Guide for more details on the available configuration options.

Auto Launcher

Automatically Launch Applications and Documents at Reset

Using the Launcher settings, the user can configure up to ten applications or documents to be automatically launched each time the Communicator is reset. In addition, you can also configure the built-in applications (Messaging, Contacts, Calendar) to restart automatically. See the Users Guide for more details on the available configuration options.

Speed Launcher

Speed Launch from the Number Keys

Using the Launcher settings, the user can configure one or more of the speed launch number keys. These commands will be available at any time when Active Desk is in the foreground – the Launcher module does not need to have focus. Pressing a number key (0 – 9) will launch the corresponding link. See the Users Guide for more details on the available configuration options.
