Registration FAQ
I have replaced my Communicator and Active Desk fails to register.
What can I do?
Active Desk licensing is strictly by IMEI code and is not
normally transferable to another phone. However, we do recognise
that due to faulty hardware some users will have their Communicator
replaced. In these situations please fax to the Active Desk team
supporting documentation that should be asked for during the replacement
of the phone. Email the Cibenix
Support Team for more information.
Will my 9210 or 9290 license key be valid for my Nokia 7650?
No. Licensing of Active Desk is strictly by IMEI code. As the
IMEI code will be different on every phone, the code issued for
a 9200 registration will not be valid on a 7650 phone. However,
the price of a license key for Active Desk for the Nokia 7650
is likely to be lower than for the 9200 Communicator. If demand
warrants it, we may also implement a scheme where existing 9200
license key holders get a further discount on the 7650 license
cost.
General Functionality FAQ
My background wallpaper appears in the top left corner of
the screen. What can I do?
For normal viewing mode the optimum image size is 460x200
pixels. For full screen mode the optimum is 640x200 pixels. Active
Desk will accept any bitmap up to a maximum of 700x240. If the
image is larger than that it will be reduced in size and will
appear in the top left corner of the screen.
I do not see "You have..." messages any more? What
has happened to them?
If you have selected the "Bring to front on case open"
option, this will put Active Desk in front of any such messages.
They are still being generated, but are hidden from view. If you
wish to view these messages deselect this Active Desk option.
Messaging FAQ
Does Active Desk have to be running for the Message Scheduler
to work?
No. The Message Scheduler is independent of the core Active Desk
application. The only dependency is that the creation and configuration
of schedule entries must be made through Active Desk.
Why is there an option to close Active Desk during the execution
of a schedule?
This is option is available in an attempt to ensure that the scheduler
does not fail because of lack of memory. The memory freed by Active
Desk will be available to the AD Message Scheduler to use.
My schedule sometimes fails. What can I do?
Check the scheduler log to determine the error. Set the retries
count to a value greater than 0 - this will cause the scheduler
to try the mail download again should the operation fail.
What are the work day start and end settings for in the Scheduler
options?
These time settings have two purposes: (1) For users who only
need to check email during working hours these setting can then
be used in the time restrictions of the schedule (e.g. Work hours
only). (2) The times can be set to the start and end of peak call
charge time for your service provider. In this case you may want
to set the schedule to repeat outside work hours thus avoiding
peak time call charges.
How do I know if a schedule ran and if it was successful?
Ensure the scheduler logging option is selected. A summary report
of the schedule activities will then be recorded to the log file.
The log file can be viewed through the Messages->Schedule log...
menu item.
I would like the Go to Inbox command to take me to the Inbox
of my remote email service. What can I do?
Create a Desk link to the folder you would like the shortcut
to open using the "Add to home" functionality. The associate
this link to a Speed Launch key (0-9). The link will then be only
one key press away. See the Users
Guide for details.
Calendar & Tasks FAQ
Some of my Calendar & Task entries are longer than the
space allowed in Active Desk. Can I see more information on these
entries?
Yes. Highlight the entry in question and press the spacebar.
The full text and other details will be displayed.
How do I quickly switch the task list shown in Active Desk?
The task list can be quickly changed using the Ctrl+W hotkey.
Launcher FAQ
How do I remember which links the speed launch buttons (0-9)
are assigned to?
These assignments can be quickly viewed through the Ctrl+Q hotkey.
Why do links to notes take me to the Desk but do not launch
the note itself?
There was a problem with direct access to notes on the Desk. The
notes could be launched OK, but if while displaying the note the
user elected to delete the note, the currently highlighted link
on the Desk was actually deleted. Or if the note was updated,
the currently highlighted icon was changed to a note icon. This
is outside the control of Active Desk and therefore the functionality
was reduced.
Memory & Performance FAQ
How can I reduce the amount of memory used by Active Desk?
Memory use can be reduced by deleting crossed out Calendar and
Task entries and deleting older entries. Also, reducing the number
of days of Calendar and Task entries can help memory usage. Note
that Active Desk 1.50a has reduced memory usage by up to 20% (depending
on configuration options selected).
